2024 Awardee | Anderson & Associates

Anderson & Associates (A&A) is a boutique law firm producing high and sustained impact across a variety of U.S. and international business sectors primarily through fervent and individualized advocacy for its clients. The firm strives for constant self-improvement in its legal practice so that its clients may benefit from both positive service experiences and victorious legal outcomes, all while the firm pursues healthy business growth. This tiny-but-mighty, Chambers-recognized firm and its founder, NAPABA and AABANY member Yen-Yi Anderson, have been consistently distinguished for achieving outsized outcomes while representing the firm’s clients in thousands of matters.

A&A envisions a more just and brighter future for all, brought forth by the zealous practice of U.S. business and immigration law. The firm seeks to deliver preeminent business and immigration legal services through synergetic relationships with entrepreneurial clients as a collaborative boutique of passionate professionals. It seeks these results while espousing its values: “the pursuit of perfection”—expecting its legal services to be impeccable; “no regrets”—going all out and leaving everything on the proverbial field for every client matter; “ever learning”—pursuing constant personal and organizational growth; and, “the highest level of integrity”—not compromising or entertaining gray areas. The firm rallies around these values while championing diversity and inclusivity by cultivating a collaborative, learning, and sharing environment that is authentic to hearts; rich in perspectives; respectful of differences; and united for excellence in legal service delivery.

The ten-year-old firm grew from humble beginnings as it was bootstrapped by Founder and Managing Principal Yen-Yi Anderson. She incorporated the firm in January 2014, and began promoting it among her personal network in July of that year. The firm’s first client was a Taiwanese-American veteran who was harassed by his landlord. A&A successfully achieved the enforcement of quiet enjoyment and received its very first payment, a sum of $200. The firm’s second client was a Chinese digital news company that was audited by the Department of Labor over whether its workers were to be categorized as employees or independent contractors. A&A’s legal response satisfied the DOL’s inquiry, and the department agreed with the client’s categorization resulting in closure of the audit. A&A received $500 for its work. Less than a year later, the firm entered its first H-1B lottery season, filing 30 H-1B cases for business clients in time for the April 1, 2015 deadline. The vast majority of these immigration filings were on behalf of Asian candidates from China and South Korea. Soon after, the firm helped approximately 50 small business clients put together binders including all of their corporate compliance and stock-related documents, with approximately 90% of the businesses involved being owned or managed by Asians or Asian Americans.

Over the years, Yen-Yi led the firm’s growth to its current size with four attorneys and a dozen staff. Major accomplishments include a 99% firmwide success rate for immigration petitions; 3,000 matters resolved; and upwards of $40,000,000 worth of real estate closings performed. These achievements have allowed the business of the firm to grow in kind, and from its initial $200 fee, it has now generated millions of dollars in revenue. These legal and business accomplishments are dwarfed in Yen-Yi’s view by her proudest accomplishment—the human impact the firm has made on the people in its radius. Numerous clients have expressed extreme jubilation after receiving legal immigration status and citizenship, leading to tears, hugs, and shouts of joy. A&A has been able to encourage the next generation of legal minds through programs involving 5th and 7th graders, high school and college interns, law students, and recent law graduates. And the firm’s dealmaking on behalf of higher education institutions, non-profits, and churches will have a lasting impact on generations to come. These results have come as Yen-Yi has stayed true to the firm’s motto: “One Case, One Victory at a Time.”
