NAPABA Statement on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health

WASHINGTON—-  The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) issues the following statement:

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health represents a fundamental change in the nation’s construction of the law and disrupts decades of legal precedent, established in Roe v. Wade, that expanded and guaranteed rights to millions of women and others around the country. This represents an extraordinary step of rejecting stare decisis, a fundamental principle that our nation’s legal system is built on. Beyond the ability of women to make their own choices about their reproductive health, the language of this decision may have far reaching consequences on other areas of civil rights and protections for vulnerable persons throughout our country. 

In May 2022, NAPABA adopted a policy resolution that recognizes all women have the right to access reproductive healthcare and should not be punished for making decisions about their healthcare and family planning.”
