NAPABA Celebrates The Confirmation of Diane Gujarati

NAPABA Celebrates the Confirmation of Diane Gujarati to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York

 

Today, Diane Gujarati was confirmed to serve on United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. First nominated on September 13, 2016, Judge Gujarati is the first Indian American to serve as an Article III federal judge in New York.

“NAPABA congratulates Diane Gujarati on her historic confirmation to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York,” said NAPABA President Bonnie Lee Wolf. “Judge Gujarati has a long and distinguished record of public service. We are proud to have supported her nomination.”

Gujarati was the deputy chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of New York. An experienced litigator, she has been an assistant U.S. attorney for nearly 20 years and worked on a range of criminal prosecutions and appellate matters, including: economic, violent, narcotics, trafficking, and exploitation crimes. She also served as a director of the Asian American Bar Association of New York, an affiliate of NAPABA.

NAPABA commends President Trump for nominating Judge Gujarati to the bench. NAPABA extends its gratitude to Senators Gillibrand and Schumer for recommending Judge Gujarati to the White House.
