The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) is pleased to partner with Prudential Financial, Inc. (Prudential) to provide a meaningful summer internship opportunity for a highly motivated first-year law student.  Through this partnership, NAPABA and Prudential will select a student to join the 2024 summer law intern class at Prudential for a 10-week internship at Prudential’s New Jersey offices.

 

Internship Description 

 

The summer internship will provide interns with the opportunity to work with attorneys who support the broad reach of Prudential’s businesses. Other features of the summer internship program include:

  • Participation in training programs presented by Prudential attorneys highlighting different areas of the business and the legal department.
  • Pairing with an attorney who will serve as a manager during the program and will provide guidance on projects and other substantive work.
  • Interviewing skill development and mock interview practice.
  • Networking both within Prudential and externally with law firms and regulatory groups.
  • Presentation development and delivery.
  • Participate in pro bono and volunteer opportunities.
  • The opportunity shadow attorneys on various projects.
  • Opportunities to interview with selected local firms for mock interviews and potential 2L internships.

The 1L summer internship will run for 10 weeks, from May 28th to August 2nd, 2024. The starting hourly wage in this position will be $31.00. In addition, if an intern works beyond their standard regular schedule, they will be compensated for all time worked including, where applicable, overtime. The program will be hybrid at our Newark, NJ location.  A minimum of 2-3 day a week will be in the office for general intern programming.

 

 
 

Intern Requirements

Applicants must be members of National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. They need to be enrolled at an ABA-accredited law school and have successfully completed the first year of law school with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). The applicant must be scheduled for graduation in spring 2026 (full-time students) or spring 2027 (part-time students).  The ideal applicant will have financial or business-related experience of interest.

 

Interns not local to New Jersey will be responsible for their own housing and transportation to and from Prudential’s offices in Newark, New Jersey.

 

Prudential does not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Successful candidates must possess the requisite US employment authorization to be eligible for consideration.

About the Program

In Prudential’s paid first-year summer Law Internship Program, interns have the opportunity to work with in-house corporate attorneys who support the broad reach of Prudential’s businesses.
 
This 10-week internship includes opportunities to:

  • Gain an enriching job experience in a Fortune 50 company.
  • Receive one-on-one guidance from attorney-manager on substantive work projects.
  • Form additional mentor relationships with Prudential’s attorneys and meet  with Prudential executives.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Participate in volunteer pro bono legal clinics and interact with real clients and cases.
  • Participate in skill building sessions, such as legal writing, negotiation skills and other business  and legal topics.
  • Interview with firms in NY and NJ for potential 2L internships.
  • Participate in Mock Interviews.
