Candidate for Vice President for Membership
Thank you for considering me for the position of Vice President for Membership on the 2019-2020 NAPABA Board of Governors.
As a current At-Large Board Member on the NAPABA Board of Governors (2017- 2019), I’ve greatly enjoyed the opportunity to work on projects that further mentorship and professional development for our future NAPABA leaders. I worked on a task force to create and implement NAPABA’s inaugural Leadership Advancement Program last year, which received glowing reviews from its participants. I acted as the board liaison to the Military & Veteran’s Network and the Diversity Network – both personally and professionally meaningful to me as both a military spouse and the Diversity & Inclusion co-chair at my law firm. And I worked on the communications sub-committee for the Women’s Leadership Network.
I am seeking your support to continue my service to NAPABA on the board next year in the role of VP for Membership. In that role, I will continue the important work begun by prior board members in that position. If elected, I will work to increase NAPABA’s value proposition to its members through mentorship and professional development opportunities. As a military spouse who during my career had to move to Virginia Beach, Virginia, Los Angeles, California, San Diego, California, Alexandria, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and, most recently, Norfolk, Virginia, I experienced first-hand the importance of NAPABA’s network for maintaining and growing in my legal career.
Although I am now a name partner at a 70+ lawyer litigation boutique, during my career I have worked in government, for a solo practitioner doing criminal defense and military administrative law, for a smaller boutique trial firm in Los Angeles, and in the San Diego office of a regional insurance defense firm. My breadth of experience has equipped me with a unique perspective to understand the different ways in which NAPABA can be valuable to its diverse membership. The relationships I made through my NAPABA membership, and the mentorship and support I received from fellow members of NAPABA were invaluable to my professional development and success. I consider multiple NAPABA regions to be my “home” as a result of the strong networks I have built through my membership.
As NAPABA’s membership has continued to grow, it has naturally evolved as an organization. I think one of our greatest challenges and opportunities for growth now includes listening to our affiliate leaders and members and utilizing their feedback to continue to grow and evolve as an organization. My key objective as VP for Membership next year would include putting processes in place to strengthen the networks between affiliates, individual members, and NAPABA. This will help us to promote and strengthen the relationships between NAPABA and its affiliates and help to engage individual members in the important work done by NAPABA’s various committees. It also furthers my goal to empower our members through mentorship programs designed to help promote them to positions of leadership in their careers and communities. Both of these objectives align squarely with NAPABA’s current strategic plan.
As someone who experienced first-hand the importance of NAPABA networks and mentorship during a challenging time in my own career, I am uniquely equipped to understand and address the ways in which NAPABA as an organization is doing well in its existing efforts, and areas in which it can improve. I would be very grateful for your vote to enable me to continue my service to NAPABA next year in the position of VP for Membership. Thank you for your consideration.
