APABA-Indiana Statement on the Bloomington Anti-Asian Stabbing The Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Indiana (APABA-IN), joined by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), strongly condemns the anti-Asian motivated stabbing of an Asian American Indiana University student at a bus stop in Bloomington. APABA-IN is working in coalition with other local organizations, including the Asian American Alliance and the Asian American Cultural Center at Indiana University, to combat anti-Asian racism and support impacted students at Indiana University and across the Hoosier state.
“As a membership that includes many Indiana University alumni, parents, and faculty, we are deeply disturbed by this horrific attack on an Asian American student,” said Judge G. Michael Witte, president of APABA-IN. “The attacker was motivated by anti-Asian and anti-Chinese hate. This incident serves as a reminder that we must do more as a united, multiracial community to combat racism and discrimination across the Hoosier state.”
“We are horrified by this attack on an Asian American student at Indiana University,” said Sandra Leung, president of NAPABA. “Unfortunately, it is a reminder that anti-Asian hate and bias continues to be a problem across the country, including recent attacks in San Francisco and New York. NAPABA stands committed to supporting our affiliated bar associations and the communities they serve.”
APABA-IN and its community partners are working with Indiana University to ensure the victim and other members of the student body receive support, representation, and resources. They will be participating in community and press events in response to the attacks.
