NAPABA Board of Governors Appoints James W. Kim as General Counsel

WASHINGTON - The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) is pleased to announce that James W. Kim has been appointed by the Board of Governors to serve as NAPABA’s General Counsel.  In this pro bono role, he will oversee and manage NAPABA’s legal affairs, serving as the principal legal advisor to the organization and its leadership on a wide variety of corporate governance and other issues.  James was appointed by the NAPABA Board of Governors after NAPABA’s General Counsel Search Committee, led by incoming President Sandy Leung, conducted a rigorous nationwide recruitment effort, vetting and interviewing several highly qualified candidates.

A longtime member, James served as NAPABA’s lead pro bono counsel on amicus briefs before the federal district, appellate, and Supreme Court. He is a partner at Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer LLP in Washington, D.C., and a nationally recognized expert in procurement law who regularly advises companies that do business with the US government focusing on professional services organizations, vehicle and device manufacturers, and the life sciences industry.  He has provided strategic counsel to clients related to US government funding and US market access, including assistance with more than $5 billion in procurement and grant awards and counsel related to more than $40 billion in successful M&A transactions.

NAPABA thanks outgoing General Counsel Courtney Fong, who has provided invaluable legal guidance to the organization, for his past three years of steadfast and diligent volunteer service.
