For Immediate Release:
June 24, 2022 NAPABA Statement on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s HealthWASHINGTON—- The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) issues the following statement: “Today’s decision by the Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health represents a fundamental change in the nation’s construction of the law and disrupts decades of legal precedent, established in Roe v. Wade, that expanded and guaranteed rights to millions of women and others around the country. This represents an extraordinary step of rejecting stare decisis, a fundamental principle that our nation’s legal system is built on. Beyond the ability of women to make their own choices about their reproductive health, the language of this decision may have far reaching consequences on other areas of civil rights and protections for vulnerable persons throughout our country. In May 2022, NAPABA adopted a policy resolution that recognizes all women have the right to access reproductive healthcare and should not be punished for making decisions about their healthcare and family planning.” ### The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) represents the interests of over 60,000 Asian Pacific American (APA) legal professionals and nearly 90 national, state, and local APA bar associations. NAPABA is a leader in addressing civil rights issues confronting APA communities. Through its national network, NAPABA provides a strong voice for increased diversity of the federal and state judiciaries, advocates for equal opportunity in the workplace, works to eliminate hate crimes and anti-immigrant sentiment, and promotes the professional development of people of all backgrounds in the legal profession.
