A federal judge last month ordered the “compassionate release” of Onta Williams, Laguerre Payen & David Williams, three Hudson valley men who were previously convicted of terrorism related offenses in a case known as the "Newburgh Four." In a scathing opinion, Judge Colleen McMahon called the plot an "FBI orchestrated conspiracy," decried the tactics used by the FBI, and expressed sympathy forthe defendants, young Black Muslim men who in her words were "hapless, easily manipulated and penurious petty criminals." Join us to learn more about this watershed decision, other preemptive prosecutions and cases targeting Muslim and Arab communities, and next steps.
