Panelists

Carolyn Ho, Octillo (Moderator) — Carolyn Ho is a data security and privacy compliance attorney who advises clients on the development and implementation of comprehensive data security and privacy compliance programs in accordance with a wide range of federal, state, and international privacy regulations, such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other emerging industry-specific and state privacy and cybersecurity laws. She assists clients in drafting privacy policies and protocols as well as with issues related to marketing, adtech, and data processing agreements.

Saba Bajwa, McDermott Will & Emery — Saba Bajwa is a 3rd year associate in McDermott Will & Emery’s Global Privacy & Cybersecurity group. Her practice focuses on providing compliance advice and guidance to clients on privacy program development, product development, digital advertising, and the impact of evolving domestic and international privacy regimes. She has experience advising clients on US and international privacy laws, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), state laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and similar laws in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Utah, marketing laws like the CAN-SPAM Act and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), and other data security and privacy laws and regulations, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and US state data breach notification laws. Saba attended the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Innovation.

Jasmine Vyas, Asurion — Jasmine Vyas is an attorney who has practiced on both US coasts and the midwest and is a certified privacy professional, holding CIPP/US and CIPM. She is currently the Global Data Privacy Manager for Asurion, handling privacy matters across North and South America, Asia, and Europe. She works at the intersection of law and operations, handling a variety of projects including educating privacy stakeholders, negotiating vendor contracts for privacy and security terms, drafting privacy notices, maturing adtech compliance, and generally protecting against privacy-related risk. Prior to Asurion, she had a long career with the federal government, including privacy consulting for a federal agency, data mapping across various levels of a complex federal agency, completing internal investigations related to policy compliance, and developing artificial intelligence tools to protect against fraud. Jasmine is a co-founder and the current co-lead of Women in Security and Privacy DC.

Wendy Wu, Wallbrook — Wendy T. Wu heads Wallbrook's cybersecurity and investigations and US West Coast practices out of Los Angeles. She also serves as the firm's US general counsel. Wendy is a recognized national expert in cybercrime and data breach response, information security, digital forensics, and intellectual property protection. Wendy is a former federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, where she served in the Cyber and Intellectual Property Crimes Section. She also served as a member of the Los Angeles Electronic Crimes Task Force, an inter-agency cybercrime response organization. As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Wendy led investigations and prosecutions of computer intrusions, extortionate denial of service attacks, computer and Internet fraud, criminal copyright infringement, theft of trade secrets, cyber exploitation of victims, financial fraud, and identity theft. Among her notable cases, Wendy was lead counsel in the first criminal trial involving violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. She prosecuted the operator of the now-defunct “revenge porn” website, isanyoneup[.]com, which is the subject of the Netflix documentary "The Most Hated Man on the Internet", and supervised an international investigation involving state-sponsored computer attacks against healthcare companies. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Wendy was a member of the White Collar Defense & Investigations Group of Proskauer Rose in New York and Los Angeles.
