NAPALSA Law Student Workshop Speakers Your Story: Beginning Your Law Student Journey September 28, 2021 Vania Wang Vania is a 3L at the George Washington University Law School. She has an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Reed College and is pursuing intellectual property law. Before law school, she spent 4 years working in marketing and business development at tech startups and law firms in Washington, DC. She worked at Sidley Austin's New York office this past summer. Averie Bishop Averie is a first-generation law student turned viral content creator. She consults with Fortune500 companies, directs her own international nonprofit, and recently worked in-house at Susan G Komen and Microsoft. She is currently the president of SMU APALSA and the director of young professionals for the Filipino Chamber of Commerce. In her free time, she runs marathons, competes in pageants, and spends too much money on coffee she never finishes.
Gene Kim Gene Kim is a corporate associate at the Palo Alto office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Prior to law school, Gene worked in strategic consulting and managerial roles across a variety of sectors, including tech start-ups, public affairs firms, political campaigns, non-profit organizations, and the U.S. Congress. Gene has also served in leadership roles for more than a dozen community and political organizations dedicated to empowering the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Gene received his JD-MBA from the Kellogg School of Management and the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. He received his undergraduate degrees in Rhetoric and Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Jonathan Ma Jonathan Ma is a 3L at Emory University School of Law. He split his 2L summer between Google's Legal Summer Institute and the Palo Alto office of Perkins Coie. During his 1L summer, he externed with the Honorable Judge Orrick in the Northern District of California. Prior to law school, he was a legal project manager at Google where he managed technical integrations with engineers to ensure new products were compliant with the General Data Protection Regulation and directly managed the company’s response to over 3,600 criminal investigations on users related to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act. He completed his undergraduate degree at Emory University.
