As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, we must relive, reflect and react to the aftermath of the tragedy. We invite you to attend SALDEF's upcoming free virtual symposium which will explore the aftermath and lasting impact of 9/11.
This vital conversation will begin with AANHPI and MASA leaders as they reflect on how the tragedy altered what activism looks like. Discover perspectives from different community leaders, what they have learned, and their vision for the future.
Next, we relive the experience of Sikh community activists to explore the range of discrimination they have and continue to experience; while also expanding on how they re-framed tragedy through chardi-kala (high spirits) despite the obstacles of being “othered”.
Finally, panelists react to the present-day reality post 9/11. This section will focus on the experiences and reactions of AANHPI and MASA communities in the aftermath of the tragedy. The panel will reveal the challenges in facing the rising xenophobic and anti-immigrant sentiment as it increasingly permeates in the media and political sphere post 9/11.
We must come together, not only as a community but as Americans, to relive, reflect and react to the tragedy of September 11 and ensure the lessons we have learned do not fade away.
Please join us for this fascinating discussion as we commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
