Past Lobby DaysYour Voices Made an ImpactThe NAPABA Annual Lobby Day is an opportunity for NAPABA members from across the country to educate members of Congress and Congressional staffers on issues of importance to the Asian Pacific American community. Lobby Day also gives members an active role in promoting NAPABA's mission of advocating for justice, equity, and opportunity for Asian Pacific Americans. Check out #NAPABAOnTheHill on Twitter to see us in action! ![]() Over a few days Asian Pacific American attorneys from around the country met with the offices of almost 120 Senators and Members of Congress during the annual NAPABA Lobby Day. They shared the importance of reforming and protecting Public Service Loan Forgiveness program; spoke out against family detention, separation, and attempts to demonize immigrants; discussed the importance of diversity on the bench; and urged Congress to recognize Asian Pacific American history, including honoring the Chinese railroad workers who built the transcontinental railroad and awarding Fred Korematsu with the Congressional Gold Medal. Your voice made a difference! Stay tuned for a summary of Lobby Day 2018 outcomes. Members of Congress expressed interest in co-sponsoring the forthcoming Adoptee Citizenship Act. Confirmation of an Asian Pacific American judge. Increased dialogue after Lobby Day with Members of Congress at local district offices. These are some of the successes of the over 160 NAPABA members from across the nation who registered for our 7th Annual Lobby Day. A record number of Asian Pacific American lawyers from 20 states and the District of Columbia came together in Washington, D.C. for a two day program that included a Congressional Reception and meetings with offices around Capitol Hill. NAPABA friends and members came together for an evening reception in the Kennedy Caucus Room of the U.S. Senate to celebrate the achievements of Asian Pacific American attorneys and our community. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (HI) served as honorary chair. We listened to remarks from Sen. Dick Durbin (IL), Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27), Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (DC), Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18), Rep. Hank Johnson (GA-04), Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD-08), Rep. Ami Bera (CA-07). Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08). During Lobby Day, attendees prepared for 80 meetings with training sessions led by experts where attendees learned about key issues and effective meeting strategies. Twenty meetings were with members of Congress, including Senators Maria Cantwell (D) and Patty Murray (D) of Washington, Senators Pat Roberts (R) and Jerry Moran (R) of Kansas, Representatives Gary Palmer (R) of Alabama, Representative Grace Meng (D) of New York, Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R) of California, and Representative Mike Doyle (D) of Pennsylvania. Special thanks to NAPABA Immigration Committee Co-Chair Jacinta Ma, Civil Rights Committee Co-Chair Rahat Babar, Pro Bono and Community Service Committee Co-Chair Daniel Hu, Judiciary Committee Co-Chair John Yang, and Diana Oo from Comcast NBCUniversal and Stephanie Peters from Microsoft for leading the training sessions. Lawyers from 21 states came to Washington, D.C., for a two day event which included a Congressional Reception, a Supreme Court Bar group swearing-in, and meetings with offices around Capitol Hill. NAPABA friends and members came together for an evening reception in the Kennedy Caucus Room to celebrate the achievements of Asian Pacific American attorneys and our community. Senator Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI) served as honorary chair. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-HI), Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA-27), Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC-6), Rep. Mike Honda (D-CA-17), Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18), Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA-7), Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA-39), Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA-41) and Gaurab Bansal, deputy assistant to the president, also delivered remarks. During Lobby Day, attendees prepared for 67 meetings with training sessions led by experts where they learned about the issues they would discuss and effective meeting strategies. Thirteen meetings were with members of Congress, including Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington, Representatives Barbara Lee (D) and Dana Rohrabacher (R) of California, and Representative Mike Doyle (D) of Pennsylvania. Special thanks to NAPABA Civil Rights Committee Chair Meredith Higashi, Immigration Committee Co-Chairs Erin Oshiro and Rio Guerrero, Judiciary Committee Co-Chair John Yang, and Kelly Honda and Nisha Ramachandran from the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans for leading the training sessions.
