Personal Statement

Training and Experience

After having the privilege of serving as the Secretary for this past year, I am happy to announce that I wish to continue to serve in this capacity, and grow in this role. Prior to serving as the Secretary, I served on the Board as the Central Regional Governor for two years. Through my three years of service on the Board, I gained invaluable insight on how NAPABA functions as a large and representative organization to achieve its goals and stay on task with its mission and vision. Specifically, as Secretary, I have familiarized myself and worked to understand NAPABA’s by-laws, processes, protocols, mission and vision, strategic plan and rules of order.

Throughout my service on the Board, I have also served as the board liaison to the Women’s Leadership Network, the Asian American Adoptee Network and Tax Committee. I also assisted in the Board’s approval of the creation of the Insurance Law Committee. Most recently, I served on the Women’s Leadership Network’s Mentorship Sub-Committee aiding in the creation and re- implementation of the mentorship program, which has been well received by its members. I have remained equally committed to my local affiliate. I continue to serve as the Community Service Committee Chair and contributed significantly to the planning and hosting of last year’s Central Regional Conference.

I am seeking to serve as the Secretary again so that I can continue to contribute to NAPABA and its Board. As an in-house attorney, I approached the Secretary position similar to that of a corporate secretary- appreciating that this role is more than administrative. I wish to continue to carry out the responsibilities of Secretary with the same degree of intensity and accountability that the position demands. More than ever, I grasp what is expected of me in this role, and I intend on ensuring the integrity of the NAPABA’s governance by renewing my focus on the efficient administration of Board meetings, compliance with the by-laws and implementation of decisions made by the Board.

Goals and Vision

As Secretary, I will focus on supporting and assisting the President and other officers in their roles and responsibilities. My goal will be to enhance operational effectiveness in communications, fundraising and Board and staff development. To achieve this, I will improve upon my record keeping- timely distributing minutes and emphasizing preparation prior to meetings to expedite matters. I plan to work even more closely with the President, Executive Director and other NAPABA Board Members and Staff to ensure that all Board members are fully prepared for Board meetings, that the records timely reflect the decisions of the Board, and meetings are organized and run smoothly. I intend to maintain important documents and records in a readily accessible manner, which are timely disseminated and/or accessible. All of which will assist in keeping the Board accountable and working toward measurable goals.

Another goal of mine, aligned with the strategic plan, is to continue to increase membership and improve upon communications with all members, affiliates and the Asian  legal community as whole. The degree and scope of work done by NAPABA is extensive and far reaching, as Secretary I wish to serve the Board and staff so that we strengthen our relationship with our affiliates and their members. To do so, I will continue to serve on the Membership Committee.

Challenges and Opportunities

With the constant changing and challenging political climate, and competing issues of importance, it is imperative that NAPABA runs efficiently. Full preparation and planning will assist in a more effective Board and organization. As Secretary, my plan is to manage all aspects of the Board meetings, including developing an agenda, incorporating old and new business, timely issuing notices, making sure that adequate time is allotted for each agenda item, and taking an active role as the parliamentarian to assist the President in remaining on task. It is my vision to have an informed and prepared Board, resulting in more meaningful and on point discussions.

It would be a privilege to continue my service as the Secretary on the NAPABA Board, and I would be honored to earn your vote. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bonnie.wolf@nationwide.com.  Thank you for your consideration.
