McGuireWoods/NLF Internship Program Summer 2015

McGuireWoods LLP, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), and the NAPABA Law Foundation (NLF) invite you to apply for the McGuireWoods/NLF Internship Program Summer 2015. The Program supports students interested in the legal profession and helps students develop a commitment to advocacy on behalf of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community. The Program seeks to achieve these goals by providing undergraduate and law school students with meaningful internship experiences at the NAPABA office in Washington D.C.

Responsibilities

The law clerk will work closely with NAPABA staff to support NAPABA by:

  • Conducting legal and policy research on issues affecting APAs and the legal profession;
  • Draft talking points and letters on issues affecting APAs and the legal profession;
  • Analyzing proposed state and federal legislation;
  • Updating and drafting NAPABA reports and white papers; and
  • Drafting memoranda regarding policy-oriented operations within NAPABA.

 

The intern will work closely with NAPABA staff to support NAPABA by:

  • Conducting research on issues affecting APAs and the legal profession;
  • Coordinating the activities of NAPABA’s committees on civil rights, immigration, community service, and pro bono issues;
  • Attending events and meetings in the APA and legal community;
  • Assisting with the planning and execution of special events such as the annual convention and lobby day; and
  • Performing other tasks to support NAPABA staff as necessary.
  • The undergraduate intern will spend 50% of his/her time working on NLF projects and 50% of his/her time on NAPABA projects for a minimum of ten weeks.

 

Qualifications

  • High degrees of resourcefulness, problem-solving, and initiative;
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Keen attention to detail; and
  • Interest in law, events, and/or public policy.

 

Compensation

For the summer of 2015, the Program will award stipends to one full-time law clerk and one full-time undergraduate intern. The law clerk (who shall be a law student) will be given a stipend of $4,500 to work for 40 hours for 10 weeks. The undergraduate intern will be given a stipend of $3,000 to work for NAPABA for 40 hours per week for 10 weeks. Funding for this program is generously provided by McGuireWoods LLP.
