1. Eat Like a Local 

If you end up at some boring chain restaurant eating bland hamburgers while you're in New Orleans, we'll simply never forgive you. More importantly, you'll never forgive yourself. Familiarize yourself with the dishes below and be well prepared to savor forkfuls of the culture, tradition and recipe perfection that have earned New Orleans its culinary legacy.

2. Be Artistically Inclined

New Orleans' Old World roots have created a strong foundation and long-standing appreciation for the arts.

3. Explore the French Quarter

The original settlement of New Orleans and the oldest neighborhood in the city is Vieux Carre, better known as the French Quarter or simply The Quarter. Established by the French in 1718, the location continues to be a valuable site for trade due to its strategic position along the Mississippi River.

4. Take a Stroll through the Garden District

Tradition, opulence and beauty can all be used to describe New Orleans' historic Garden District. With its well-preserved collection of antebellum mansions, pristine gardens and southern charm, the Garden District certainly stands out as one of the country's most lovely neighborhoods, and a popular destination for visitors.

It is said that in New Orleans, culture bubbles up from the streets. Nowhere is this more evident than in the music scene. You'll know it when you come across a street performance that rivals any ticketed show you've seen.

8. Take a Streetcar to City Park

City Park is as magical and unique as the city of New Orleans. The 1,300-acre outdoor oasis has enchanted New Orleanians since 1854, making it one of the nation’s oldest urban parks. Catch the green Canal Streetcar -CityPark Museum line located steps from the Hilton Riverside.

9. Meet the Mississippi: Explore the Riverfront

The Mississippi River looms large in the American identity, from the history and literature taught in schools to the nation's modern economy.

In New Orleans, there's no better place to experience the river in all its bustling activity, natural splendor and historical significance than the riverfront area adjacent to the French Quarter. Sweeping vistas, public art, family activities and jumping-off points for riverboat tours are all clustered here along a linear park and walkways.
