NAPABA CONGRATULATES ITS 2008 AFFILIATE OF THE YEAR,
THE ASIAN AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK
Washington, D.C. – The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), the national association of Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors and law students, congratulates the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) as this year’s winner of NAPABA’s Affiliate of the Year Award. AABANY was honored at NAPABA’s annual gala on Saturday, November 22 during NAPABA’s 20 th Annual Convention held in Seattle, Washington on November 19-23, 2008.
NAPABA’s Affiliate of the Year Award was first conferred at the 2007 NAPABA Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was established to recognize outstanding regional Asian Pacific American bar associations affiliated with NAPABA, for making exceptional contributions to its local community.
“AABANY is to be commended for its special efforts to increase involvement by current members in its activities, demonstrating to new Asian Pacific American lawyers the many benefits of joining the organization,” said Alexander C. Chae, Co-chair of the NAPABA Awards Committee. In addition to its annual fundraising banquet held in February, other key 2008 events held by AABANY included a panel about judicial clerkships, a reception by representatives of DA’s offices from all five counties in New York City, and a networking skills workshop.
AABANY identified three best practices to share with NAPABA affiliates: setting annual committee budgets by line item at the beginning of each year, organizing its website to accept RSVPs and payments for membership fees, and holding executive officer conference calls or meetings prior to full affiliate board meetings.
As the winner of NAPABA’s Affiliate of the Year Award, AABANY will receive one free registration to next year’s NAPABA Convention, which will be held in Boston, Massachusetts. The 2009 Affiliate of the Year application will be made available online at www.napaba.org
in the spring of 2009.
